Summary
The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) seeks a purpose-driven, energetic, and creative Development Manager to set the overall strategic plan and process for PSC’s philanthropic efforts. PSC has just undergone a full assessment and launch of its philanthropic effort and we are looking for an individual who can build the processes to scale while also supporting and strengthening relationships with our donors. In addition, this role will identify opportunities for PSC to increase giving levels across foundations, corporations, and individuals. This is a full-time and hybrid role based near our Boulder, CO HQ. Remote candidates willing to relocate, with relocation assistance, will be considered. Fully remote candidates may be considered based on experience. We operate in a fast-paced start-up environment and this position will play an integral role in the growth of PSC and our ability to affect change in the pet industry.
This position requires excellent strategic thinking, relationship building, process development and improvement, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate will need to be a team player and self starter who can work cross-functionally in a startup environment.
The Role
The Development Manager will work directly with both our internal and external partners to support our overall philanthropic giving strategy, including individual, foundation, and corporate giving. The role’s responsibilities will be divided roughly into the following key areas:
Philanthropic Strategy (35%)
- Set the overall vision and strategic plan for PSC’s philanthropic effort, focusing on an annual revenue plan, driving donor cultivation, and driving philanthropic growth.
- Create and stage the implementation of planned giving tools over time as appropriate for resources
- Lead philanthropic revenue forecasting projections, budgeting, and goal setting on an ongoing basis
- Build systems to streamline donor experience, internal reporting, and moves management.
Development (60%)
- Meet or exceed the overall department annual revenue goals established in consultation with the Executive Director
- Set and achieve ongoing revenue goals, with increasing annual and long-term support as the donor portfolio matures
- Personally manage a portfolio of up to 50 major donors prospects ($5,000+)
- Seek new funding sources
- Develop and execute a donor stewardship program to maintain and strengthen relationships with current funders
- Track all plans, interactions, and solicitations in Neon CRM in real time; review records and run reports to ensure accurate portfolio data
- Support the Executive Director and the Board on meetings with tier 1 donors in their portfolios
Staff Management & Leadership (5%)
- Lead hiring and growth of Fundraising Department staff
- Oversee any contractors or consultants supporting philanthropic efforts
- Lead Board-level task force to identify strategies and opportunities to increase giving levels
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in nonprofit management
- 5+ years of relationship-based fundraising experience
- Track record of achieving growing revenue goals
- Demonstrating experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding $10,000+ philanthropic (non-event) donations
- Compelling written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with donor database management
- Ability to travel
Desired Experience:
- Fundraising experience in the climate change, conservation, sustainability, or environmental arena highly desirable
- Knowledge of the pet industry valued
