The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), dedicated to the acceleration of environmental and social sustainability in the pet industry, helped member companies stand out in the crowd at this year’s Global Pet Expo with their second Green Paw Program. Developed to acknowledge companies that are taking steps toward a sustainable future, the Green Paw Program saw a 32% increase in participation over their inaugural event in 2015.
In order to participate in the Green Paw Program, each member company must complete the PSC Quick Impact Assessment. The assessment was developed in partnership with nonprofit B-Lab to provide members insight into how they can improve their sustainability practices across a wide spectrum of business activities. Once approved, participating members can be identified throughout the trade show by the large green paw print proudly displayed at the entrances to their booths.
This year the list of participants included Barkworthies, Annamaet, Piscine Energetics, Worldwise, Mammoth, Doggles, Healthy Pet, R2P Pet, West Paw Design, Pet Age, Outward Hound, Cardinal, Fibercore, Planet Dog, Kurgo, KONG, Earthbath, True Dog, Kinn, Fluff & Tuff, Company of Animals, Molly Mutt, In Clover, Pura Naturals and Himalayan.
By participating, companies are acknowledging their own sustainable progress and creating meaningful conversations around it with partners throughout their supply chain. Additionally, they are aligning publicly with other likeminded companies and increasing awareness of the sustainability movement within our industry.
“We are extremely excited about the momentum the Green Paw Program is gaining,” states Caitlyn Bolton, PSC’s Executive Director. “We believe it is an effective way for members to showcase the work they are doing around environmental and social sustainability, and we expect our program at Superzoo in August to be even more successful.”
PSC was founded in 2013 with the mission to accelerate environmental and social sustainability in the pet industry through education, implementation tools and collaboration. It has partnered with Natural Capitalism Solutions, the Outdoor Industry Association’s Sustainability Working Group, LoveAnimals.org, B-Corporation, Sustainable Apparel Coalition, GreenBlue and others to provide member companies with the resources and guidance they need to attain continual sustainable improvement.
